Thank you
for attending Grocery & Specialty Food West 2017!

Over the two-days, there’s been plenty of opportunities to learn, network, and discover innovative ideas to take back to your business.
Highlights from the conference & workshop sessions:
Tony Chapman Monday Keynote
A cultural shift is happening that is and will continue to impact the Independent Grocers Top and Bottom Line. Restaurants are taking a massive bite out of Canadians food budget, while Convenience, Drug and Mass are eating into their Grocery Budget. Millennials are at the wheel of this shift, and last year they surpassed the Boomer in both size and spending power, and they are driving the behaviour of older and younger generations.

Our future depends on winning over this cohort.
Fresh Cheese Workshop by Saputo’s cheese expert Louis Aird
1.Cheese should always be stored at 0° to 4°C (4° max)

2.Keep cheese in their original wrap as long as possible and always keep your cheese properly wrapped

3.Cut and prepare cheese when it is cold; it can be handled easily when it has been refrigerated

4. Remove only what you need, keep the rest in the refrigerator.

Store in original container or a plastic container with a lid. Imperative to observe the best before dates.
Sales Workshop with Tony Chapman & Marion Curtis
For decades the Vacuum Cleaner marketplace had been dominated by a handful of established competitors. The retailers and consumers seemed happy with the status quo.

This all changed with a British Inventor, James Dyson, decided to create a ‘better mousetrap’. He and his wife bet their entire life’s savings to create a vacuum cleaner that had better suction, didn’t need replacement bags, and had a clear canister where people could see the dirt they had lifted from their rugs and floors.

He had to overcome the bias of the retailers who felt they didn’t need another vacuum cleaner. Today James Dyson is Sir James Dyson, and their family net worth is over $5 billion pounds. Teams were tasked to write a story for young James Dyson to convince ‘set in their ways’ Retailers to stock his new vacuum cleaner.
