Canadian department stores are getting into the food business because it’s good for business, according to retail experts.
In-store food outlets help keep shoppers in the stores longer and more frequently.
According to website Retail Insider, as department stores moved to the suburbs, the in store restaurants disappeared. But now, there’s a resurgence of food options in the retail format.
Nordstrom’s, Holt Renfrew, and Quebec’s Simons are just a few of the department stores now featuring food experiences, from restaurants to cafes.
In the future, Sak’s Fifth Avenue has partnered with Oliver and Bonacini with food halls operated by Pusateri’s.
