The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers’ (CFIG) Master Merchandiser Awards Program (MMAP) honours and recognizes best Point-of-Sale merchandising in the grocery industry. It enables retailer and supportive manufacturers the opportunity to stimulate purchase by building effective displays, promotions and events.

Participation in the MMAP encourages employee team bonding while creating a stronger and changing shopping experience for your customers resulting in incremental sales and customer loyalty.

Who Can Enter

Retailers must be a member of Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) or Association des détaillants en alimentation du Québec (ADA).

Entry Eligibility

Merchandising displays, promotions and events held between August 13, 2022 and August 11, 2023. Entries can be submitted at any time during this period.

Entry Fee

There is NO COST for MEMBER retailers to enter.

Judging

A panel of experienced industry judges will determine category winners based on:

  • Creativity & Visual appeal
  • Effective use of signage
  • Display Shopability
  • Effective Cross Merchandising
  • Supporting Manufacturer Compliance

A display using just ONE of the participating manufacturers’ products.

Multi - Manufacturer

A display using  TWO or MORE products from different participating manufacturers’.

Themed Event

A display featuring a charitable, fundraising, cultural, grand opening or community focused theme featuring one or more of the participating manufacturers’ products.

Perimeter Display

A display of Dairy / Meat / Deli / Frozen / Bakery / Produce focused on one or more of the participating manufacturers’ products.

First to Market / New Product

A display introducing a new product or redesigned packaging (in the last year), utilizing  just ONE of the participating manufacturers’ products.

Submission and Entry 

  1. Go to CFIG website (URL: mastermerchandiser.ca)
  2. Click on Master Merchandiser Awards
  3. Fill out entry form (one per merchandising category-repeat if participating in other categories)
  4. Upload pictures (maximum 3 – must be at least 300 DPI and in JEPG format) and follow directions (See Display Photo Do’s and Don’ts)

Awards

Stores will compete by store size selling area:

Small surface
up to 14,999 sq. ft.

Medium surface
15,000 – 24,999 sq. ft.

Large surface
over 25,000 sq. ft.

A total of 15 prizes will be awarded (3 different store size groupings and 5 different merchandising categories). Winning stores receive a plaque recognizing best in class in merchandising for the calendar year. Awards will be presented at Grocery Innovations Canada
