Bay Roberts, NL – Despite the challenging restrictions caused by the pandemic, modified fundraising initiates still went ahead in support of Make-A-Wish Canada (formerly known as Children’s Wish Foundation Canada). As a company, Powell’s Supermarket remains committed to their goal of granting one wish per year for a local child, and 2020 was no exception. From contributing $1.00 from the sale of every rare tub of Moritz Mint and Orange Icy squares last Christmas, to Wish Cloud window cut outs, fundraising partnerships with Bimbo Canada and Coca Cola, the team reached their $10,000 goal for 2020. This will be the third wish granted by Powell’s Supermarket since 2018.
Sweet 6-year-old Lauren Tucker, of Bay Roberts will receive her wish – to visit Walt Disney World when it is safe to do so – as a result of Powell’s Supermarket’s donation to Make-A-Wish.
Lauren’s mom, Lisa, says her daughter loves to visit the newly renovated supermarket, just as she did as a child. Lisa recalls strolling the aisles of the former Powell’s Bay Roberts location, and notes that the fact a local business is making her daughter’s wish happen has made the announcement even more special for the family.
Lauren is described by her parents as an inquisitive, adventurous little girl who loves drawing, colouring, singing and painting. She also enjoys playing with her 9-year-old brother Logan who is her hero, idol, and favourite companion!
Doctors diagnosed Lauren with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy at a young age. Since then, it has been a hard and sometimes lonely journey for Lauren and her family. They have faced much illness and change. However, they say that the anticipation of this Wish will make Lauren’s future treatment plan a little brighter. The promise of a Wish provides the fuel for pushing forward. And Powell’s Supermarket is grateful to help make that happen for this deserving girl and her family!
Lauren and her brother can’t wait for the fun, relaxation, adventure and sunshine that comes from a wish at Disney. However, more than anything, Lauren’s parents are looking forward to seeing the glow of wonderment, surprise and magic on the faces of Lauren and Logan. They are so deserving of this wish, together!
The Powell’s Supermarket team is thrilled for Lauren and can’t wait to give this sweet girl and her family a fitting send-off when the time comes!
