In 2015, Canadian Grocer’s annual market survey found that traditional grocery industry in Canada (chain, franchise, major c-store banners and unaffiliated independent grocers) saw total sales rise 2.1% over 2014, reaching more than $91 billion.
The trade magazine reports what drove grocery store sales last year was rising food prices – iwth inflation around 3%. Canadian Grocer predicts that grocery store growth will stay well under 2% this year.
