Fresh prepared food departments are the fastest growing departments in the supermarket, with the retail meal solutions market having grown to $34.6 billion in the U.S.—and supermarkets accounting for $19.5 billion of that.
Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers’ president and CEO Tom Barlow moderated a panel that consisted of Christy McMullen, Summerhill Market; John Mastroianni, Pusateri’s; Gary Wildman, Longo’s; and Jeff York, Farm Boy. Carley Fortune, of Chatelaine magazine also contributed her consumer expertise to the discussion.
