English writer and dramatist William Shakespeare quote. Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow.
William Shakespeare said, “parting is such sweet sorrow”. As I write my last contribution for CFIG’s Express Checkout, I am reminded of these words. Time is a funny master, it is hard for me to think that when I accepted the role as President and CEO of this great organization that the time to leave would come so quickly. It has been my great pleasure to be part of an organization that is “on the side of the Angels”, Canadian-owned businesses lead by passionate and caring grocery retailers who make a positive impact to the communities they serve every day.
We are fortunate to be able to stand on the shoulders of those hard-working women and men who came before us and who have helped create the great industry we work in today. We owe it to them to continue to fight each and everyday for Independent Grocers across Canada and I am confident that Tom Shurrie, your new President and CEO and the team at CFIG, will continue to do just that!!
When I think back on my past 5-plus years, I am very proud of what we have been able to accomplish together. A few examples include: reductions on credit card fees, reductions in business taxes and the expansion of beer and wine into grocery retailers in British Columbia and Ontario. These are just a few of our accomplishments and they would not have happened if it was not for the hard work and dedication of the staff here at CFIG, and the support of the talented and dedicated board of directors who I have had the great pleasure of working for.
I won’t say goodbye, because the way I see it, A GOODBYE just means that A HELLO will be coming soon. I hope to meet you again someday.
In closing, I want to wish everyone a happy and joyful holiday season.
