On February 2nd, OPAY Inc., the convenient all-in-one payment solution provider and telco system oriented company, hosted the O-Wallet Mobile App Launching Event in Richmond Hill, Ont., introducing this mobile payment solution which is expected to help local merchants capture the spending power of Chinese tourists and international students as well as Chinese new immigrants in Canada.
As their first retail partner, Galleria Supermarket was invited to present some of their most popular items on a ‘Virtual Store’ board on which the guests were able to scan the QR code to purchase from the Opay’s mobile wallet, so-called ‘O-Wallet’ on their phone.
Themed as ‘Future is Now,’ this show placed special emphasis on showcasing self-service shopping in the virtual environment while celebrating WeChat Pay launching in Canadian marketplace.
The event was attended by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, Commercial Consul Mr. E Defeng, along with political and community leaders in Toronto, Markham and Richmond Hill joined together to celebrate OPAY- Galleria partnership and their WeChat pay/AliPay launching in Canadian retail industry.
Peter Shin, the executive director of Galleria Supermarket as an invited panelist in the ‘Interactive Session with Merchant’, introduced current Galleria business and future blueprint and their high expectation on how they can cater to Chinese customers by offering faster, safer and easier payment option.
Galleria Supermarket officially launched WeChat Pay/ AliPay as of February 1st in all five of its stores, which they believe will be a great turning point opening the door wide to Chinese customers in time for the upcoming Chinese New Year Celebration.
Especially with 2018 Canada-China Year of Tourism, the number of Chinese tourists and international students is expected to rise due to streamlined visa application process and active promotion across the two countries.
