The 44th annual Corner Brook Winter Carnival kicked off on Friday, February 20, with the flag raising ceremony at City Hall.
Colemans, a bronze sponsor supplied hot chocolate to those who braved the cold to attend.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, the much anticipated seventh annual Winter Carnival Chili Cook was held in Bowater Park from 11 am – 1 pm with the most entries ever at 15.
All funds raised went to the Western Memorial Hospital Foundation, WMRH.
Colemans’ chili was the most unique made with ground NL seal loins and created quite a buzz at the event. Chef Nikki, a chef in training from Academy prepared the chili with a few recommendations from Chef Paul Templeton, who trained under Jeremy Charles owner of Raymond’s Restaurant in St. John’s.
Also on display at the Coleman table were Newfoundland seal pelts. The chili was a big hit and many of the tasters enjoyed the flavour and were surprised to learn that Colemans carry seal meat products including seal loins, flippers and pelts on a continuous basis.
Congratulations to the winners of the chili contest; Melody Vincent & Elle Patterson tied with Lee Miles & Cyril Walsh for third place, Gary Kean from Western Star, second place and first place went to a first time entrant Steve Mugford.
