With the devastating Avian Influenza situation in the U.S. and have heard about the severe affect it is having on egg supply and prices there.
Canada depends on the U.S. for about 10% of our supply and therefore are being challenged as well.
“Our hope is to be able to mitigate against some of the extreme volatility that retailers will see south of the border and we are working with Egg Farmers of Canada on a number of initiatives in that regard,” said K. Robin Horel, president and CEO of the Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council in a letter to Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG).
As our members are likely hearing about the supply issue, Horel expects to hear conversations regarding “moderating` specials on eggs over the coming months until we can be more confident of supply.
Horel’s members have provided the note around this issue. Download document here.
