Omer Moncion(pictured seated centre), passed away peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 12th, 2015 in his 90th year.
Omer and his late wife Reina purchased a small corner grocery store in the Ottawa Valley town of Pembroke in 1951. At that time, they didn’t know at that time their eight children would follow them into what would become a local dynasty.
Moncion Grocers grew to three stores — Pembroke market, Petawawa Market and Riverside Market — employing more than 300 staff. Omer’s and Reina’s passion for the business led to their nickname in the community as “Mr. and Mrs. Grocer”.
Visitation will take place at the Neville Funeral Home, 491 Isabella St., Pembroke on Tuesday, December 15th, 2015 and Wednesday, December 16th, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church, Pembroke on Thursday, December 17th, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
Interment St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Members of Knights of Columbus, Council 1531 are requested to meet at the funeral home for prayers on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
