The seventh Farm Boy store in Southern Ontario opened its Pickering location on September 29, at Pickering Town Centre.
The official grand opening took place on October 1, with several of the town’s dignitaries present for the event including Pickering Mayor, Dave Ryan and local Ministers and MPPs. The first 50 customers in line were lucky to receive a Farm Boy gift card in various amounts.
Jeff York CEO of Farm Boy commented, “Offering fresh, wholesome foods with a focus on customer service has been the heart and soul of our business since 1981. After opening our location in Whitby last August we have received many emails from Pickering residents asking us to open there as well. We are excited to share the news today with everyone in Pickering that we will be open in the fall and look forward to serving them the best fresh shopping experience.”
The 25, 000-square-foot store features a 52-foot salad and hot bar with a station for making fresh sushi and another for pizza. There is a butchery showcasing its 14-days aged AAA beef and hormone free meat, a deli with 200 local, artisanal or international cheeses, eco-friendly fresh seafood, a variety of organic and local produce, a bakery and 15 varieties of Ontario dairy produce.
That one location alone is said to be the home of 150 new employees.
