The Town of Ladysmith, B.C., along with retailers 49th Parallel Grocery & Paradise Island Foods took on a Guinness World Record attempt on Sunday for the largest street hockey tournament in single day on June 4, 2017.
Closing down main streets for games, skills competition, food, music and Ladysmith’s Hockey Hall of Fame, the event was a great success, with the tournament drawing in over 600 players.
49th Parallel’s President Peter Richmond and his team helped to spearhead the effort along with a committee of dedicated volunteers to make the tournament possible, reported the Ladysmith Chronicle.
New this year was a skills competition, food, music and Ladysmith’s Hockey Hall of Fame.
There was also a special spotlight in Aggie Hall on Dudley “Red” Garrett, the first NHL player killed in World War II. He played 23 games for the New York Rangers before he enlisted in World War II.
