Introducing the new vertical $20 bank note

We’ve unveiled a new vertical $20 bank note!

The vertical $20 note has advanced and dynamic security features that are easy to check and hard to counterfeit, ensuring that Canadians can use it with confidence. The purple security stripe – a first for our bank notes – uses technology never seen before on Canadian currency. The vertical $20 note features a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III on the front and the Canadian National Vimy Memorial on the back.
This is the second note in the Vertical series, the first being the $10 note featuring Viola Desmond, issued in 2018.

The $20 note will gradually start circulating in late February 2027 alongside the other $20 bank notes already in circulation.
